Happy Half Birthday Charlie Kate!

Charlie “Cake” (in the words of Sam Burgess),

Today you are Six months and three days old.  We were just starting to feel like we were figuring things out with you when, “BAM!” you started teething, got a stomach virus, a horrible diaper burn from the virus, and your sleep/ eating schedule went out the door for 2 weeks!  It was so awful to see you so pitiful.  We tried every single thing to make you feel better and to get you to eat.  It turns out that we all made it through and you are still the sweetest most content little girl.  You seem to still like us, even after all of the forced Pedialight.
We went to Oklahoma to Amber’s wedding last weekend.  We traveled at night which worked out great for you!   You slept the whole way there.  Daddy and I took turns sleeping.  The trip back, however, was a very different story!  You were awake for most of the twelve hours, and very frustrated that you couldn’t get out of your seat.  We will NEVER drive twelve hours again!
You are so active!  I’m excited, but nervous about your upcoming months.   You will definitely be crawling soon, and putting more non-toys in your mouth… so we’re probably going to do some décor changes in the very near future.  You get up on all fours like you are revving up your engine, about to go!  For now you just roll over, or take a lunge with one of your legs and lose your balance because you don’t move your arms yet.  I think it’s hilarious when you roll over next to the couch and you get super mad because it stops you from rolling further!
Two sweet little teeth have broken through your bottom gums at the same time, and are the cutest!  You do not allow us to look at them, so when we see them it’s a definite treat.  When you eat with the rubber spoon, you bite down really hard on it now.  I think you have wanted to do that for a while, and now you are making up for the time that you couldn’t grab the spoon with your teeth.  I was cleaning your gums the night we got back from Oklahoma when I felt them.  You bit down super hard on my finger as if to say, “Look what I got!”
We got your ears pierced for your half birthday!  You did so well, and barley cried.  You definitely hesitated to cry at all, and then decided that you better express your dismay for at least ten seconds.  They look very sweet on you.  We got your birthstone, so they bring out the blue in your eyes.  We thought your eyes would turn completely green, but so far they only have a green ring around the middle.  Your hair is growing and seems to have a gold tint to it.
You are beautiful inside, outside, up, down, and all around.  We love to hold you, and snuggle with you, but I think those days that you let us are numbered.  Boo!   We love you way so much!

The Queen of Oatmeal and Carrots is 5 Months Old

Sweet Darling,

You are such a big girl, and we are in such awe of how fast you are growing.  I am pretty sure you are going to be a beat boxer or a master in languages since you are constantly making outstanding new sounds.  We have been playing a pretty intense game of peek-a-Boo, which you LOVE!  The biggest accomplishment this month has been that you are sitting up, yay!  You are so strong, and you just roll around all over the floor.  In the morning when you wake up, you play so good in your crib until we come get you to eat your oatmeal.  You like your oatmeal, but still love a bottle.  We have to hide your bottle until you finish your food. J So far, Carrots seem to be your favorite of the food- foods.  You grunt, suck on your bottom lip, and say, ”mmm” when you eat them.

When you play:  You still love your bouncy gym, and your play mat.  We are cautious when you are in your Bumbo now since there has been a safety recall.  You would rather sit up to play with your toys and get frustrated when you are on your back or belly.  You are really laid back, and can go to sleep almost anywhere!  We just make you cozy, put the sleep app on my phone on “rain”, and you go right to sleep.  You are AWESOME!
I am about to start substitute teaching and you will stay with Popa, Grandma, or Daddy on those days.  I will miss you like crazy, but I know you will love having time with them.
We have fun with some of your friends, love Sundays at Grandma’s, and family fun with Nana and Popa’s crew.

We are so thankful for you every single day, and we pray that we are teaching you and helping you grow the way God wants us to

Charlie Kate is 4 months Old!

Charlie Kate,

You are such a big girl!  We are constantly amazed by how awesome you are.  We are 100% positive that we don’t deserve you, but are so glad God gave you to us to have for a while.  We pray that we are doing a good job at being your parents and that you grow to seek Him.  Let’s see, what have you been up to this month?  You are constantly changing, so, here goes:

We have had your second round of shots… you cried more this time, but it didn’t last too long.  You sleep so well through the night. Sometimes we have to put your paci back in your mouth in the early morning, but you go right back to sleep.  You drool so much all of the time, so you wear a bib a LOT.  Everyone asks if you are cutting teeth and we’re not sure, but I think you just like to spit.  We took a vacation to Orlando, FL, and also to Chatanooga, TN with daddy’s side of the family.  You traveled so well in the car and everyone took turns playing with you.  We always have eventful trips, but the Orlando trip was life changing.  We’ll tell you the story one day, but just know that your daddy is my hero.  You have a new cousin, Nora!  YAY!  Dan and Leann were blessed with her right after we got back from Orlando.  You two are only 3 months apart.  I’m glad that you will have a play partner so close to your age.

Your hair is growing back in after falling out… it seems to be blonde with a bit of a red tint when the sun shines on it.  You love to be outside or look out the window at the trees and flowers.  You lift your head and legs up, when we lay you down, like you want to get up and play.  You love to look at pictures in your books!

You love to look around at everything and everyone.  The simplest things seem to grab your attention the most, and you give the best smiles ever!   During the day you like to sit in your Bumbo, ride around in the car with me on errands, bounce, swing, and play on your tummy-time mat.  You have just begun to sit in your play gym and jump around for five- ten minutes at a time.  I’m nervous that your legs will develop all curvy if I leave you in too longJ.

Your buddy Sam was watching Baby Eintein shows, so I decided to try it with you, and you LOVE it!  We started letting you have oatmeal with your bottles and spoon- feed it to you in the mornings.  You don’t like the spoon when you are super hungry, or if you see your bottle, but you like it pretty well the rest of the time. You get tired of it after a while, and then you open your mouth so it all falls out… We feed you without cloths a lot of the time, you are too cute! J  I love dressing you and trying on bigger sizes to see if they fit!  You don’t like to change very much so I try to keep it to a minimumJ.  You have really started to enjoy pulling up your shirts, dresses, and bibs to look at the pattern and colors on them.
You are 23.5”long (90th percentile), and weigh 13lbs. 2 oz. (50th percentile).
You love all of your cousins, they keep you very entertained.  Nana, Papa, Grandma, and Grandad all think you are so wonderful and just love it when daddy and I call to see if they want to visit or keep you for us.

You have just begun to laugh and give little giggle sounds.  It’s amazing!  You give daddy really juicy kisses on his nose when he lifts you up to his face.  You two get to snuggle at night right before bed most of the time.  You smile really big when he comes in the door, and he loves it!

You sleep, sleep, sleep before your evening meal, and when you wake-up you are ready for your bottle, and while you eat you stare at me and get really cozy.  You usually like to take your time with that bottle, and when you finish it you want to sit really still and cuddle.

WE LOVE YOU, Charlie Kate Burgess!  Happy 4 months! (Just a little late)

3 Months Old!

Charlie Kate,

You are such a big girl!  As soon as you wake up in the morning you give us a great big smile.  It makes our day!  Daddy hogs you in the morning since I get to stay with you all day while he works.  He misses us so much at work.  He texts me and asks for pictures on a daily basis.  So we go visit him, and all of the techs a lot.

Your daily activities are very fascinating!  You tell very intense stories with your grunts and coos.  Don’t worry; we have recorded many examples for keepers!  You have just started sitting in your Bumbo this week, and so far you love it.  You hold your head up like a pro.  You clasp your hands together and try to fit them both in your mouth.

We went to Missouri for your very first Kent Family Reunion.  You met Great Gran for the first time.  Everyone loved you and was super impressed with your strength!  You did so great in your car seat all 8 hours of the trip!  I believe the trip helped you to be able to fall asleep without being rocked at all!  Rocking time was already very minimal, but now you suck on that pacifier and fall right to sleep. (So Sad) I do have to get some “rocking time” in for myself.  You are a wiggle worm and are sure to run before walking.  We have had great success at church- one blow-out/ outfit poop damage, several spit ups, and only one serious cry.  You have a hard time sleeping through the singing, but don’t seem to mind. (You like to be serenaded)  We traveled to Birmingham for a wedding where you met sweet little Lilly Click.  You gave her a hug and gave lots of smiles, it was so sweet!

As you can tell we think everything you do is so precious and can’t get enough of you.  It has been a Happy 3 Months!  We LoVe YoU Charlie Kate Burgess!

2 Months Old
Yay!  We Did It!

Time is absolutely flying by!  Charlie Kate’s Milestones:  rolling over from her stomach to her back, holding her head up, sleeping through the night still (six hours), smiling, cooing, kicking, and following objects with her eyes from side to side.  She is not a huge fan of tummy time so it will only last around five to seven minutes.  We have been to a wedding, and a baby shower that were out of town.  She did great on both trips.  We are taking her to church and for little outings to hang out with our families.  We have tried going for a walk and it didn’t last very long.  She doesn’t love her car seat when she gets tired, and she was too hot.  We’ll have to try it indoors in between her feeding and nap next time.  This change is getting to be more of “the norm”.  We Love her more and more each day!

Bath Time

Charlie Kate is SIX Weeks Old!
We are learning so much!  She eats every 2.5 hours, sleeps through the night (six hours), and has started smiling and cooing.  She is so sweet when she wakes up, and when I wake her to eat.  She has mixed feelings about her bath time.  She definitely wants to eat and immediately sleep after her bath.  She has to be cuddled close and bounced to get to sleep for naps.  We are still trying different napping places.  She likes her crib, and will do well in the car-seat for a while.  She naps the best in my arms (Which I LOVE!)  I couldn’t live without the video monitor or Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack.  She is growing so much and getting so long.  At Charlie Kate’s last doctor appointment she measured 23 inches long and weighed 9lbs. 2 oz.  She will get her shots in 3 weeks.  I have been so worried and nervous about EVERYTHING!  From sickness and shot reactions to who she will be friends with when she gets older. Ha!  I have chilled out a lot since the first few weeks of hormonal changes, and am reassured that God is in control.  That fact allows Jon and me to sleep at night and takes a load of pressure of perfection off of me.  We are so thankful!
